“NeuroKinect: A Novel Low-Cost 3Dvideo-EEG System for Epileptic Seizure Motion Quantification” describes a new tool that can be used for diagnosis and follow-up not only for epileptic patients but also for other neurologic diseases like Parkinson’s.
This work led to the creation of the first system in the world that uses 3D video technology, in a low-cost approach to extract movements patterns during epileptic seizures.
The aim will now be making this system, which is being tested for a year at the Epilepsy Center, Department of Neurology at the University of Munich, available for other epilepsy monitoring units and collaborate with them for the good of patients.
This work developed by INESC TEC researchers, University of Aveiro, University of Munich and the Technical University of Munich, was published last Friday, 22 January 2016, in the journal PLoS ONE, a publication that in the area of ‘Life Sciences & Earth Sciences’ Google Scholar is only surpassed in terms of scientific impact metrics by journals like Nature, Science and PNAS.
